I Manage My Meds was co-designed by older patients and healthcare staff
For two years, researchers from the University of Bradford, the University of Leeds and the Yorkshire and Humber Patient and Safety Translational Research Centre worked with a patient with lived experience of managing many medicines and an advisory group of older patients and family members.
That’s what we did:
First, we interviewed 32 older patients and 16 staff members across South and West Yorkshire, to learn about their experience of managing many medicines at home.
Second, we looked at the literature to find out what support was already available for older patients taking many medicines and what needed to be improved.
Third, a group of older patients and family members worked with pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and nurses to identify the main challenges people face in managing many medicines and co-designed better ways to support them.
I Managed My Medicine puts together our learning from the interviews, the literature and the co-design work.
Many thanks to all the patients and healthcare staff who took part in the co-design, the patients and family members who supervised the study and to the Yorkshire and Humber Clinical Research Network for their ongoing support.
